Who are we looking for?   

A business partner who works closely with Project Managers (PMs), Project Directors (PDs), Business Group Leaders (BGLs) and key stakeholders to drive financial performance and provide key insights on project performance.  As an integral member of the team, the finance business partner fills a non-transactional role, working under the direction of the Finance Manager.  The business partner provides proactive support to the business including project financial support, internal and external compliance, reporting, pricing reviews, P&L review and month end close process support.  An element of the role will involve standardizing/streamlining processes and implementing the GHD way of working to align with global policy.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Work closely with PMs, PDs, BGLs and key stakeholders to drive optimal; financial performance by influencing, analysing, interpreting and communicating key performance indicators.
  • Providing trusted financial advice to key stakeholders to align business direction, financial strategies and utilising a variety of data sources to support sound decision making.
  • Promptly alert the key business risks affecting the business and develop and implement actions to mitigate the business risks and to optimise business performance.   
  • Assist in Pricing / Commercial Analysis support for project proposals and projects.
  • Support to operations on project set up and work breakdown structure.
  • Regular audit of project management system to ensure projects accurately reflect the work breakdown structure, commercial terms and billing requirements.
  • Work closely with the team of Project Service Advisors (PSAa) who review revenue on projects to ensure accurate revenue recognition on all projects.
  • Analyzing actual vs expected project outcome across a series of KPIs used to measure project success.
  • Monthly analytical reviews of major projects or projects in trouble (Budget, Effort, Revenue, WIP, AR, Variances) and engaging with PMs, PDs and stakeholders for discussion to ensure optimal performance and accurate revenue recognition.
  • Support the PSA team as needed to ensure all applicable client billings are raised on a monthly basis and finalised by the due date.
  • Assist collections team in driving project cash collections on projects. 
  • Support with month analysis of KPIs and Billing / Cash Collections forecasts.
  • Provide system and commercial insight training for stakeholders. 
  • Analyse and review actual vs budgeted expenses account on the Profit and Loss Statement.
  • Support the Finance Manager as needed with all aspects of the month end close process.
  • May be responsible for the financial management of specialty projects, including Federal, Joint Ventures and Strategic Alliances.
  • Assist in liaising and addressing queries from corporate, internal and external auditors.
  • Assist in ensuring GHD meets all internal and external compliance requirements.
  • Support the annual budgeting process by analysing existing data and providing forecasts.
  • Assist in other finance related issues as they arise or directed by the Finance Manager. 
  • Adhere to all GHD internal control and finance manual policies.

What you will bring to the team:

  • An appropriate accounting qualification 
  • Holding a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation, or equivalent, or in process of obtaining desingation.
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar Finance role 
  • Strong adherence to professional ethics and confidentiality 
  • Experience in a professional services, construction or project environment with a thorough understanding of work in progress concepts 
  • Well organised and an ability to develop process and procedures 
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills 
  • Experience with implementation and embedding new systems would be viewed favourably 
  • Experience in BST 10 viewed favourably 
  • Experience in developing, analysing and reporting to Budgets and Forecasts 
  • The ability to influence, collaborate and build relationships to drive exceptional business performance 
  • Proven ability to influence, manage and prioritise across diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound excel and microsoft office suite skills 
  • A pragmatic and action orientated approach with a willingness to get involved at a hands on level
